Selling Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 7 July 2026

These Selling Terms & Conditions apply whenever you offer to sell furniture to Settle.

By submitting furniture for valuation or accepting one of our offers, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.

1. About our buying service

Settle purchases carefully selected pre-owned furniture from private individuals and businesses.

Our aim is to make selling furniture simple, transparent and hassle-free. We provide an online valuation, arrange collection where appropriate and pay electronically before our collection team leaves your property.

2. Requesting an offer

To request an offer, you'll need to provide information about your furniture, including photographs and a description.

Please ensure the information you provide is complete and accurate.

Our valuation is based entirely on the information you've supplied.

3. Your responsibilities

By requesting an offer, you confirm that:

  • you are at least 18 years old;
  • you own the furniture, or have the owner's permission to sell it;
  • you have the legal right to transfer ownership to us;
  • the furniture is free from finance, hire purchase, leasing or any other third-party interest;
  • the information, measurements and photographs you've provided are accurate to the best of your knowledge.

4. Photographs and descriptions

The photographs you provide should fairly represent the furniture.

Please ensure they do not intentionally hide significant wear, damage, repairs, stains, structural issues or missing components.

You should tell us about anything that may reasonably affect the value or condition of the furniture, including:

  • damage;
  • repairs;
  • structural issues;
  • excessive wear;
  • missing parts or accessories;
  • smoke damage or strong odours;
  • mould, damp or water damage;
  • signs of pests or infestation;
  • modifications.

Honest disclosure helps us make accurate offers and avoids delays on collection day.

5. Our offer

We'll normally provide an offer within 24 hours.

Our offer is based solely on the information you've supplied and assumes that the furniture accurately matches its description and photographs.

Unless otherwise stated, offers remain valid for seven days.

We may withdraw an offer at any time before it has been accepted.

6. Accepting an offer

If you choose to accept our offer, we'll arrange a mutually convenient collection date.

Acceptance of our offer does not immediately create a binding purchase.

The purchase remains subject to inspection by our collection team.

7. Inspection on collection

Before completing the purchase, our collection team will inspect the furniture to confirm that it matches the description and photographs provided.

If the furniture matches the information you've supplied, we'll proceed with the purchase at the agreed price.

If it differs materially from the information provided, we may:

  • proceed with the purchase at the agreed price;
  • offer a revised purchase price; or
  • decline to purchase the furniture.

Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • undisclosed damage;
  • structural defects;
  • missing parts or accessories;
  • excessive wear;
  • inaccurate measurements;
  • evidence of smoke damage, mould, infestation or contamination;
  • furniture that is materially different from the photographs submitted.

Our collection team's decision following inspection is final.

8. Collection

Please ensure that:

  • someone aged 18 or over is present during the agreed collection window;
  • the furniture is ready for collection;
  • safe access is available;
  • any parking restrictions or access issues have been disclosed beforehand.

Our team is happy to dismantle furniture where reasonably necessary to complete the collection.

Please ensure the furniture is accessible and that there is a safe working environment for our team.

9. Missed collections

If nobody is available during the agreed collection window, or we're unable to access the property, we'll treat the collection as unsuccessful.

If you'd still like to sell the furniture, we'll do our best to arrange another collection date.

If your plans change, please let us know as early as possible. Wherever reasonably possible, we ask for at least 72 hours' notice before cancelling a collection so we can reorganise our schedule.

10. Payment

Before collection, you'll be asked to securely provide your bank account details using our payment provider.

Once our collection team has completed their inspection and confirmed the purchase, they'll authorise payment through our secure payment system.

You'll receive email confirmation once your payment has been released.

Payments usually arrive within minutes, although occasionally they may take longer due to banking or payment provider processing times outside our control.

Our collection team are not required to wait for funds to appear in your bank account before leaving.

The email confirming that payment has been released is sufficient confirmation for the collection to be completed.

11. Transfer of ownership

Ownership of the furniture transfers to Settle once:

  • the purchase has been confirmed by our collection team;
  • payment has been successfully authorised through our payment provider; and
  • we've sent confirmation that your payment has been released.

At that point, our collection team may leave with the furniture, even if your bank has not yet credited the funds to your account.

12. Title guarantee

By transferring ownership of the furniture to Settle, you warrant that you have the legal right to do so and that Settle will receive good title to the furniture free from any undisclosed third-party rights or claims.

13. Payment delays

We use trusted payment providers to process payments securely.

Although payments are normally received very quickly, occasional delays may occur due to banking systems or technical issues outside our control.

Where payment has been successfully authorised, any subsequent banking delay does not affect completion of the purchase.

14. Right to refuse purchase

We reserve the right not to purchase furniture if:

  • it differs materially from its description;
  • ownership cannot reasonably be established;
  • it presents a health or safety risk;
  • safe collection is not reasonably possible;
  • we reasonably believe the furniture has been misrepresented.

15. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.

Subject to that, our liability relating to the purchase of your furniture will not exceed the agreed purchase price.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time.

The version published on our website when you accept our offer will apply.

17. Contact us

If you have any questions about selling your furniture, please get in touch.

We're always happy to explain how our buying process works before you decide whether to accept our offer.
